Carbon Capture
China is far ahead in the global field of synthetic plastic production technology using carbon dioxide.
Environmental Impact
Why utilize carbon dioxide?
According to the Carbon Guardian industry report, the production of polymers via the petroleum route is estimated to consume 2-5 tons of crude oil and emit 4-8 tons of carbon dioxide per ton of plastic produced. In 2022, the plastic industry released at least 9.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide, and by 2060, it is projected to reach a staggering 27.6 billion tons.
CO₂ Plastics Have Dual Carbon Reduction Benefits
Producing 1 ton of CO₂ plastics directly uses approximately 300-400 kilograms of CO₂ as raw material, achieving direct carbon sequestration.
Producing 1 ton of CO₂ plastics without using 300-400 kilograms of fossil-based raw materials, achieving direct carbon reduction.
Producing 1 ton of CO₂ plastics, assuming it replaces 40% of propylene oxide, can reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 2.5 tons.
A Groundbreaking Global Solution for CCUS
With the global initiatives to address climate change and achieve carbon neutrality goals, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) has become a critical component of many countries’ decarbonization plans. Major technological innovations in the entire process of CO₂ capture, transportation, utilization, and geological storage, along with large-scale industrial application demonstrations of CCUS technology, can provide significant support for achieving carbon emission reduction targets. This is of great significance in serving national strategies and promoting green development in the economy and society.
At LXBIO, we employ cutting-edge technology to directly utilize CO₂ in producing PPC-P fully biodegradable polymers. This represents a groundbreaking global solution for CCUS, and it can directly substitute significant amounts of fossil materials such as petroleum and coal to produce high-value plastic products. Additionally, PPC-P is endowed with high oxygen barrier, water barrier, and carbon dioxide barrier properties.
Long-term planning
LXBIO® is a range of specially developed high performance muitifunctional polymer resins, which are compliant with the most relevant regulations and requirements related to biodegradable plastics.
Applications & Solutions
Using CO₂ as a raw material for directly synthesizing plastics can perfectly address the aforementioned issues. However, industrialization of this process has not yet been achieved globally. LXBIO‘s PPC-P can achieve carbon sequestration and meet requirements for biodegradability, food contact, and more, thereby providing a solution to support sustainable development in the global plastic industry.
